In 1979, after being laid off from the metal fabricating job he had for 18 years when the company closed down, John Ryan, along with his wife Barbara, purchased a few pieces of equipment and began building custom boat trailers in the garage of their house. That is how Ryan Industries was born. Within 6 months, the business had grown out of the garage and into a larger space.

John used the contacts he had made while at his former job, and brought in other projects to build the range of products Ryan Industries manufactured. Ryan Trailers had become a well known and respected brand name in boating and gave Ryan Industries a reputation for quality. Rotational molds and parts for pitching machines and batting cages soon became a large portion of the business and the trailer line was eventually sold off. The buyer kept the name, and Ryan Trailers are still built today.

Over the years, Ryan kept upgrading equipment and added more diversification to the range of products they built. There have been ups and downs, but Ryan has been able to weather the changes. As large production manufacturing moved overseas, Ryan increased it’s custom fabrication business, building a reputation for knowledge, quality and reliable delivery.

A spin-off was started in 1993, Ryan Technology, Inc., with a line of horizontal slicers for the bakery industry. Their first two models, the Model 892 Center-Hinge Butterfly Slicer and the Model 793 Rotary Table Utility Slicer were well received when they debuted at the 1994 International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas. The Model 793 Rotary Table Slicer was particularly applauded as it represented the return of a unit similar to the old, reliable Zira slicer, but with upgrades. Ryan Technology has kept the Ryan tradition of quality and reliability in all of it’s products. Some of the first Ryan slicers ever built are still in use today.
